The MAGNETIC NEEDLE of a COMPASS is
free to spin around and point in any direction. But, the modern COMPASS
NEEDLE is marked N and S
on its ends and is designed to point to important regions of the globe.
Q The end of the NEEDLE that is marked N point to which geographical region of the globe? Q The end of the NEEDLE that is marked S point to which geographical region of the globe? |

We all played with the MAGNETS once and we found that each magnet ATTRACTED some magnets and REPELLED other magnets.
Now science reveals to us that the Earth is a Giant Magnet. Given these facts: The Compass Maker wants to design a compass so that its arrow always points to the North Pole of the Earth. {This is a skill known in Biblical Times!} Q If the North Pole has the charge N, what charge must the pointed end or the arrow head of the compass have in order for it to point correctly to the north pole of the Earth? {Use your intuition: Ask yourself the question, should the pointed end of the compass be attracted to or be repelled from the desired direction! Should the pointed end be pulled or pushed?} Important Note: The compass needle always points to the MAGNETIC NORTH of the Earth! This is NOT the TRUE NORTH of the Earth! To determine the true north requires skills and knowledge of Earth Geometry and Astronomy, a skill known by the ancient Egyptian astronomers, as will be seen in the study of The Great Pyramid. |
