A stormy Cloud Formation
can store millions of volts of
static electrical charges and build up enormous amounts of
energy such that whenever Nature decides it wants to discharge or unleash
its energy all at once into a single clap, producing a powerful bolt
of lightning, the discharge will take the shortest
electrical path to the ground! This path could be any conducting
matter that just happens to be in the circuit of a convenient electrical
path to the ground such as: a
tree, a light post, a chimney, a car antenna, an animal unprotected, a
child unprotected, a person unprotected, a person touching an appliance in
the home or a person that is leaning against a wall that had been lined
with silver paint or wall paper or any metallic object that by some chance
offers completion of an electrical path to ground! Q At the instant nature decides it wants to discharge all of its energy, which one of the following things you really want to be doing at that instant in time? {Note: only one answer is correct! All the other choices are totally incorrect and hazardous!} a) Standing outside in the opening ground... b) Holding up a metallic umbrella at any place at anytime (inside or outside)... c) Talking on the wire telephone... d) Be going around the house unplugging appliances or turning off anything electrical... e) Taking a shower... f) Sitting quietly with all family together, preferably downstairs, away from metallic objects... g) Turning off lights... h) Looking around for your pets... i) Disconnecting your computer... j) Anything to keep busy... k) Getting snacks out of the refrigerator... l) Standing up in a corner of a room or touching a door... m) None of the above {Lightning bolts typically deliver Hundreds of Thousands to nearly a Million Amperes (Not Volts). Several Milliamperes (only 0.001 amps) could be FATAL! The Voltage is High just moments before the discharge of lightning! A Hundred Pounds of matter can easily be vaporized into less that 50 Pounds of Remains!} Bonus Question It is customary for children in numbers, in sizable families, out for a stroll, crossing streets, or just lounging, to hold hands. But, when caught by abrupt electrical storms, in the homes or outside, it is advisory to have children not to touch oneanother! Each to his/her own little space, but close by. Military persons are trained to spread out. Some animals instinctively spread out just before lightning claps. Why?
